Flight 619
An immersive unit of work
This is a three week long, immersive unit of work, based around a fictional account of a solo flyer whose plane crashes on a deserted island. Each day is a combination of the following elements, based around a common daily theme:• A maths investigation or experiment
• A daily diary entry
• An extended writing piece, based on a stimulus, and covering a range of writing genres. It has been produced for Year Six pupils, although can of course be customised for different age groups. You can download the packs for free here:
Everything for #Flight619Some days will need resourcing and some preparation, but this shouldn’t take longer than twenty minutes in most instances. The value of having the actual items rather than Google Images cannot be underestimated, so do look through the resource lists for each day, as you may wish to start collecting items. The vision for this is that the work will form a separate Art Sketch book, so if you wish to follow this vision, order enough sketch books for your pupils, and a few reams of cream or off-white paper. Sample ‘rough’ templates are included in the back of this pack to print onto, and paper can be distressed by tearing/burning the edges, reducing their size from A4.The units of work are designed to take three hours to complete in total, leaving the afternoons free for other related activities (if chosen). There is a great deal of Art, Design, Computing and Geography opportunities offered by this unit of work, and it would be fantastic to see any ideas you produce from this unit stimulus.Ideas, additions and suggestions are welcome! @mrlockyer
